WHEN SHOULD I DISCUSS MY ASSESSMENT WITH THE ASSESSOR’S OFFICE?

The assessment of your property can be discussed at any time during the year. However, if an agreement cannot be reached on your assessment, the most important time of the year to take an action is the last part of August and the first of September when the assessment rolls are open for inspection. It also is the time that the taxpayer can legally file a protest to the assessment if we cannot settle our differences regarding assessment. Several taxpayers wait until receiving the tax bill the first of December to discuss their assessment. We can discuss your assessment at that time but you cannot legally file a protest at that time.
