WHEN SHOULD I FILE HOMESTEAD?
You can file a Homestead Application at any time during the year, from January 1 to December 31. To qualify, the owner must have a deed for the property filed in the Clerk of Court’s office during that year.
Once a homestead exemption is approved, it stays in place for that property unless the ownership changes or the homeowner no longer lives in the house.
If you move, you must notify our homestead department that you no longer qualify for that homestead. If you move into a new home and qualify for a homestead exemption, you can let us know when you come to our office to apply for the new homestead.
